Through the efforts of Professor Howard Morgan (who was subsequently my Thesis advisor), this DEC-10 was connected to the ARPAnet, and I was listed in the ARPAnet Directory of of October 1979 (see page 254) with the NIC Handle of "TP4", and in the subsequent ARPAnet Directory of November 1980 (see page 194). While I was at Wharton I had submatriculated in the the Masters Degree program in Computer Science, and I was working as a full-time employee of Wharton as Manager of Computer Operations, from May 1980 until August 1981. These were the earliest years of computer networking, the 1980 Directory makes it clear that this was the Very First "internet" connection in Philadelphia (at the blazingly fast speed of 56,000 bits per second!), and at that time, there were only three sites in the entire state of Pennsylvania (Wharton, CMU, and Naval Air Development Center [NADC] in Warminster). Obviously the Internet has grown a LOT since those early years, when the Directory could list everyone with just two letters and a numeric digit!
