Teacup Persian Kittens

Teacup Persian Kittens

Teacup Persian Kittens are smaller than standard size doll face Persians with a more petite body structure.  A standard doll Face Persian can weigh 15+ pounds while a doll face Teacup Persian can weigh as little as 5 pounds. But when it comes to Teacup Persian Kittens, it’s not so much about the weight as it is about the body structure. Standard doll Face Persians have longer, larger bodies while doll face Teacup Persian Kittens have shorter, more petite bodies.

What is a Teacup Persian Kitten?

Many years ago, Persian cats seen in show rings looked quite different than today. Not only were their faces structured differently, but also their bodies were quite different too. In fact, show Persians of long ago had longer, larger bodies and legs. At some point, it was decided to change the look of the show Persian using a technique called inbreeding. After many generations of inbreeding, the Persian cat’s appearance changed dramatically creating a more flatter (smashed) face and shorter, more cobby body. But not all breeders chose to take the path of inbreeding their Persians. Some breeders preferred the more traditional looking Persian; therefore, continued to breed for that look. Later, the traditional Persian was fondly named the Doll Face Persian.

As mentioned above, a standard Doll Face Persian has a more longer, larger body and legs. By making generations of well thought out pairing choices, standard Doll Face Persian breeders were able to create Persians with more smaller, petite bodies. It wasn’t easy, and it took many generations to create what is known today as Doll Face Teacup Persian Kittens.
